The Adriatic Military and Air Exhibition and Conference – ASDA 2021 was officially opened in the Spaladium Arena in Split on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. The International Exhibition of Weapons and Military Equipment Manufacturers is being held for the sixth time in Split, under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. TNT Production Inc. from the United States and with the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia. ASDA 2021 is attended by 155 exhibitors of weapons and military equipment from 24 countries.
In addition to representatives of exhibitors and organizers, the opening was attended by the Prime Minister’s Envoy and Minister of Defense Mario Banožić, Envoy and Adviser to the President and Commander-in-Chief Dragan Lozančić, Envoy of the President of the Croatian Parliament and Member of Parliament Ante Bačić, Chief of Staff Admiral Robert Hranj , Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Blaženko Boban, Mayor of the City of Split Ivica Puljak, representative of the organizers TNT Production Inc. Justin Webb, ministers and other representatives of foreign state and military delegations, leaders and commanders of organizational units of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces and others.
In his address, Minister of Defense Mario Banožić welcomed all exhibitors and delegations to Split. “The military equipment and weapons industry, without a doubt, is one of the most complex and technologically demanding branches of the economy. Exhibitions like this are an opportunity for meetings between representatives of governments and business people in the defense industry. I believe that this sixth edition of ASDE will be successful for all of you who came to Split. ASDA has established itself as a platform to demonstrate the latest trends in the defense industry, a place to contract jobs and make contacts and meetings. I am pleased with the strong presence of the Croatian defense industry at the fair, which also shows how it has grown into a respectable player in demanding world markets, “said the Minister.
The prefect of the Split-Dalmatia County, Blaženko Boban, thanked the company TNT Productions for organizing the ASDA in Split for several years. Maintenance is important for the city and the county, as the notion of security is closely linked to tourism, which is a key industry.
The Mayor of the City of Split, Ivica Puljak, said that the ASDA has economic, military and foreign policy significance, and that its holding is a great honor for Split, which is increasingly profiling itself as a congress center for major events.
Representative of TNT Production Inc. Justin Webb said that the organization of an international exhibition such as ASDA requires a lot of effort and thanked everyone who participated in it, and especially the Ministry of Defense for “vital, enthusiastic and lasting support.”
After the opening ceremony, the delegations toured the exhibition space at the Spaladium Arena. ASDA 2021 is a business event (business-to-bussines) intended primarily for representatives of governments and the defense industry. The main topics of the exhibition include weapons and military equipment from all three branches of the armed forces as well as equipment related to protection and security, and among the exhibitors are the most renowned companies in the Croatian defense industry, as well as some of the biggest names in the world defense industry. The exhibition will be held until Friday, October 1, 2021, with the implementation of all epidemiological measures in accordance with the current epidemiological situation.
After the tour, the delegations headed to the barracks “Admiral of the Fleet Sveto Letica Barba”, where a demonstration of the joint military security capabilities of ASDA 2021 was held. The capabilities of the Croatian Army for the implementation of naval and air landing were presented. Members of all three branches of the Croatian Army and members of the Special Forces Command, the Intelligence Regiment, the Military Police Regiment and the Support Command took part in the exercise. Among other systems, the exercise included landing ships-minesweepers Cetina and Krka, coastal patrol ship OOB-31 Omis, RTOP-42 Dubrovnik, helicopters OH-58D and Mi-8 MTV and armored combat vehicle Patria. In addition to an attractive display of capabilities, training and exercise, members of the CAF also demonstrated the quality of various products of the Croatian defense industry with which they are equipped.
After the successful completion of the exercise tasks, the director of the exercise, the frigate captain Dražen Guć, emphasized that about 250 members of the CAF participated, and the preparations lasted about a month. “I hope that in this small area we have managed to show all the power of the HV in joint action,” said Guc.
Soldier Daria Šerić from the 3rd Mechanized Battalion Spiders of GMBR said that her participation in the exercise was an exceptional honor, adding that they actually did what they do every day in the unit.
Officer Ivan Kraljević from the HRM Naval Infantry Company said that the transhipment of forces at sea was very difficult and demanding, followed by a landing on the shore and the capture of the bridgehead. “We have shown that we are always ready to perform all set tasks,” Kraljevic concluded.
